Equality 7-2521 and the Golden One(the blond head that he loves) climb up into the mountains so that no one can follow them and while they are there they find an abandoned house. They assumed that the house must be a house from the Unmentionable Times that was protected from the weather and time by trees.
Equality 7-2521 and the Golden One enter the house, and they are amazed at the house and its technology. They are astounded by the idea that a house could be so small, such that it obviously housed no more than a dozen people. They are amazed by the colors in the house, as well, and are shocked to learn that houses could be a color other than white, brown, or gray. Equality 7-2521 also finds a library with shelves of books, and he is amazed that there are not manuscripts. He looks through some of the books and discovers that he knows the language but that there are many words he does not know. Equality 7-2521 tells the Golden One that they will move into the house and never leave it. They will not share it but will live there together until they die. The Golden One answers, “Your will be done.”
His new commandment is to live and speak and give meaning to the world. He seeks guidance in his heart, and stares at his hands where he sees the history of centuries, both good and evil, and he is filled with reverence and pity. He wonders what the secret is that his heart is trying to tell him.
Equality 7-2521 realizes the meaning of the word “I” and realizes what has been missing from his world. He writes about standing at the summit of a mountain and realizes that he has reached the end of his quest to find the meaning of things because he is the meaning of things. His eyes’ seeing makes the earth beautiful, and his ears’ hearing makes the earth sing. His mind’s searching gives the earth truth. He only command respect or should respect. In his new view, the only three holy words are “I will it!”
Equality 7-2521 realizes that the goal of his existence, no matter what may come of the earth, is his personal happiness. He is not a means to an end, and he is not a servant of his brothers. His miracles are his and his alone, and he will protect them from others at all costs. He says that his treasures are his thoughts, his will, and his freedom, and the greatest of these is freedom. He owes nothing to his brothers. They owe him nothing, and he wants nothing from them. He chooses his friends and he chooses when to join with them and when not to. He neither commands nor obeys.
In Equality 7-2521’s view, the word “we” must always be a second thought to men, after the word “I.” When it is allowed to become a major thought, it is the root of all evil and becomes a great lie. The word “we” enables the weak to steal from the strong and becomes a stone that crushes all those beneath it. Equality 7-2521 vows that he is finished with the old society and collectivism. He has seen the face of god, and he will raise it above the earth so that everyone may worship at its altar. His new god is “I.”
The end of this story was very interesting and allowed me to think back to Huck Finn because Equality 7-2521 always would refer to "we" and would live his life in a very structure way until he realized that there's other important things in life and the things that he was taught and those who he respected wasn't right. The same as Huck when he realized that treating Jim lower than a human and when realizes that he has emotion too and did things the way he wanted to do not what society made it seem like. Over all Anthem was a great book and i recommend it to everyone who likes to read about they way society is and someone who changes their values and go against everyone else.
ANTHEM BY: ANY RANO (1-50)
A youth named Equality 7-2521 writes in a journal from underground, where he is alone in an abandoned railroad tunnel. He and his friend International 4-8818 discovered the tunnel when they were working as street sweepers behind the theater near the edge of the unnamed city where they live. Equality 7-2521, ignoring International 4-8818’s objections that it is forbidden because the Council has not allowed it, goes down into the tunnel to explore. He states that the tunnel must have been built by men during the Unmentionable Times of long ago, and therefore it must be an evil place. He is drawn to the train tracks that he finds there, and when he come out from the hole, he makes International 4-8818 promise not to tell anyone about the hole. International 4-8818, an artist who is strong and funny, is very upset by this idea because it might be forbidden, but out of a sense of loyalty to Equality 7-2521, he agrees, though even the sense of loyalty that he feels upsets him because preference of one person over another is not permitted by the Council.
Equality 7-2521 describes his childhood at the Home for Infants, where he lived with all the other boys of his age, in a white room with a hundred beds and nothing else in it. At the age of five, he moved to the Home of the students, where he lived until he was fifteen. He was a troubled child because he often fought with the other boys who lived there. His teachers disliked him because he was too smart, and the authorities chastised him because he was taller than the others. He tried to be like the other children, but his curse kept him from achieving normalcy. He especially tried to be like Union 5-3992, a dull and stupid boy in his class. His curse made him curious and pushed him to ask questions, which his teachers eventually forbade.
When he turned fifteen, Equality 7-2521, like all the other boys, was assigned his task for the remainder of his life by the Council of Vocations. Equality 7-2521 wanted to be assigned to the Home of the Scholars, who develop all technology for the society, including the candle, the most recent invention, discovered a century earlier. He wanted to be a scholar more than anything, even more than being a leader. Equality 7-2521 sinned by wanting, so he was forced with a profession that he didn't value, which was a street sweeper.
Reading the first few chapters of this novel I was extremely confused but well engaged in the reading because in the back of my mind I though about decorum, which this contained a lot of. It was so intriguing to know how strange this society was and how everything is so well organized. It reminded me of "I-Robot" with Will Smith, the robots were trained to certain things and if they disobeyed they would basically be put down and just like Equality, because he "wanted" he has was considered to be a sinner and was forced to do something he didn't want to do.

RELIGION: In Trinidad an Tobago ever ethnic group has there own religion. Whiter it's Hindu, Muslim, Rastafarian, catholic, Christian, an so forth. For example, Rastafarian was originated in Jamaica but is now a big thing in Trinidad. It is a Christian based religion that follows certain scriptures from the bible. Their name for God is Jah. They believe that the late emperor of Ethiopia was the 225th incarnation of king Solomon, modern messiah. They don't eat processed food, have dreads, don't eat meat just protein, an they use marijuana as a meditation during prayer meetings.
LANGUAGE: Many people think that Trinidadians have their own language when it's really just English wig an accent. Depending on where you grew up in Trinidad and your ethnicity maybe more strong than other or wheter you are well educated or not. In TRINI French words are directly translated to English, but the structure maybe different, for example "it makin hot" instead of "it is hot."
The language spoken in Trinidad and Tobago is a mixture of influences from other languages. The reason for this is that when slvery took place slaves wanted to use hidden codes to speak to each other in ways that their master didn't understand.
Some examples are. . .
Basement= a big party that went really well
Big up= bragging and praising to someone
Break a lime= just family gathering to hang out
Darkers= sunglasses
Dou dou= sweetheart or darling
Boldfaced= pushy, promoting yourself, conceited

Trinidad and Tobago Summary 20-40
Hunters and gatherers, Meso-Indians lived on the island of Trinidad, leaving behind stone tools and shell middens. The second set of settlers arrived on Tobago, from South America around 300 B.C They were farmers who could make pots and cloth and who cultivated potatoes and cassava, which was then used to make bread. They colonized the Antilles and spoke dialects of Arawak. Around 1000 A.D another group came that spoke with a Carib dialect.
Soon after Christopher Columbus arrived,1498, the Spanish raided Trinidad for slaves. For two centuries the Spanish colony settled in 1592 at St. Joseph Trinidad, due to little investment the British and Dutch came in; 1797 Trinidad was invaded by the British and the Spanish surrendered.
During World War I, life became very hard for working men in Trinidad, a lot of political unrest and strikes occurred. In 1925 the franchise was extended and Indians and trade union reps. were elected to the legislature. As the worldwide depression began to hit Trinidad, workers grew poorer and the people began to suffer from hunger.
Tobago was a British colony unrelated to Trinidad. Once the merged together the government shifted even though taxes and legislature remain separated. In 1962 Independence occurred and the island became part of Britain's Commonwealth and was to be ruled by someone appointed by Britain. However due to the constitution in 1976 changed that rule.Trinidad and Tobago's government was followed in the same setup and the United States, legislature, judicial, cabinet, and political.
Reflection: There was a lot of confusion occurring when these two countries were going through colonization, different leaders, suffrages, and slavery.
Question: Why should other be in control of a place they don't even come from? Who gives anyone the right to say that something is theirs when its really not?

Trinidad and Tobago Summary 1-20
Trinidad and Tobago by Sean Sheeban, states many different facts about Trinidad. Trinidad and Tobago are two small islands off the north coast of Venezuela in the Caribbean sea. Along with other countries, Dominica, St. Lucia, Jamaica, and other all fall in the long chain of the West Indies. The West Indies separate the Caribbean sea from from the Atlantic ocean.
The island has a total area of 1,864 square miles and is the more industrialized of the two islands. Tobago, just 7 miles northeast of Trinidad, is smaller at 116 square miles. Trinidad has three ranges of hills running across it from west to east, part of this range starts in the Andes Mountains and extends along the Paria Peninsula to the islands. The hills on the east are known as the Trinity and along these ranges are swamps known as the Caroni ans Nariva Swamp.
Both islands have a tropical climate of high relative humidity and distinct seasons, dry in December and May, with a wet season between June and November, June being the wettest month, raining about every afternoon everyday. During the dry season, February being the driest month, at an averages of 70 degrees. April is the hottest month with temperature highs of around 85-100 degrees.
Trinidad's the third largest and most newly developed town is Chaguanas, located halfway between San Fernando and Port-of-Spain. It is now an important business center servicing the oil industry, and like San Fernando and Arima, Chaguanas was once home to the Caribbean Indians. The southern end of Trinidad is dominated by heavy industry, with serval towns supporting the workers.
Question: Why is Trinidad and Tobago considered to be one country when they are not joined together?

Bastard out of Carolina, Summary 155-309
Having to deal with a young child when you are one yourself is a different situation and having to do it all on your own is even harder. However, at the age of 17, Anney got married and soon after he past away leaving her with now two daughter to support. Through her brother Anney meet this you guy that's goes by the name of Glen Waddell.
Glen is the type of man that will make promises to love and take care of everything in the household and women tend to love it when they are told so, especially if they are a single parent. Two years later, they get marry. Glen begins to show his true colors and who he really is, a failure; he cannot hold a job and he keeps drinking non-stop. He is filled with rage against his own family, and he takes out his frustrations and anger on Bone. He first sexually abuses her less than a year after they are married; masturbating against her.
With no job leading to no money the family if forced to moves constantly, and Bone and Reese are always hungry. At one moment Anney prostituted herself to get money to buy her children food.
When Bone is ten, Glen starts viciously beating her. He puts aside several belts just to do so. Anney being a witness to this gets angry at Glen but forgives him and does nothing about the situation. Bone comes realizes that she must be careful around Glen and try not to get him angry even though she doesn't do anything, just the sliest things that's she would say or do would piss him off. At one time Bone was beaten so badly she was sent to the hospital and a employee stated that there was child abuse going on in there home. Anney begs Bone to "be more careful" around Glen.
The moment when Anney realizes that she has to stick up for her daughter and get rid of Glen was when Bone had moved in with her aunts and Glen had came over looking for her and played it off as if he was looking for her mother and then took her into the room and began to rape her, but little did he know that Anney wasn't that far away and she caught him. Even though she didn't want to believe it and loved him so much she came to realize her children were more of and importance to her than some man.
QUOTE:"I lived in a world of shame. I hid my bruises as if they were evidence of crimes I had committed. I didn't tell Mama. I couldn't tell Mama." (Allison 123)
REACTION: There are so many children out there that are going through these same problems and don't know what to do. They always seem to blame themselves in situations as such and never want to speak up about it. Why should they feel this way? Its not fair to have someone go through so much pain at such a young age and they don't have n idea of whats taking place. An to know this is happening all over the world amazes me so much.
How can a "man" do such things to such a young child? What goes through someones mind when they are doing such things?

Bastard out of Carolina, Summary 1-155
TITLE: Bastard Out Of Carolina
AUTHOR: Dorothy Allison
The narrator is a 10 year old girl, named Bone, who faces many consequences because of the actions of her mothers decisions upon who she decides to be in a relationship with.
Anney was a teen mother, age 15. There was and accident that caused her to be rushed into labor after she was flown out the window of a car. In Carolina at this time a child was considered certified or uncertified. If they were uncertified they were called Bastards, or child who didn’t have a father. When Anney got into the car accident she was left in a coma for 3 days. Her aunts were in charged of handling the birth certificate of the narrator, Bone. Months before the birth of Bone, her grand-mother ran off Bone’s father in rage. The aunts could not determine how they should spell the childs name. Even they couldn’t even think of how to spell the fathers name. On page three, the author explains the importance of having a fathers name on the birth certificate. When Bone’s aunts scribbled anything as the fathers name, the hospital certified Bone as a bastard by the state of South Carolina. Anney was upset by this. She had wished that she was awake to name her child herself. Anney was convinced that she could have bluffed her way through her labor, they don’t ask for a marriage license before they put you up on the table. She thought she could lie her way into getting her baby to be certified. Anney set out many times to the Greenville courthouse. She had tried to get the courthouse to get Bone to be certified. In all the attempts Anney was turned down, and taken as a joke by the courthouse. They expected her to go to the courthouse every so often to get the same results. Anney became furious with the courthouse and had given up. She had tried to forget about the situation, but the people surrounding her hadn't.
Quote: "The day I was born started off bad and only got worse. I guess I was lucky I got born at all." (Allison 4)
One of the most interesting things I learned so far from reading this book is how babies are classified when they are born. how is it possible that the hospital has the right to declare a child as illegitimate, a bastard, or uncertified if for some reason they don’t believe there is a father in the childs life. And as simple as a man’s presence during the birth of a child, they are declared certified.
Questions: What type of person was Bones father? Why was he hated so much?

Summarizing 180-END
Getting out of riker's was something that Carroll was looking forward to. However his life seems to be going down hill since the day he came out; Hes even starting to think of himself as a junkie an just getting more involved in drugs and alcohol; Noones there for him, his friends seem to be on their own things and he's just stuck behind not knowing what to do with himself. Instead of turning his life over and trying to make himself into sething such as a basketball player, he just thinks about ways to spend his money on crack. His life story as a teenager seems to he as a fairytale and it's hard to believe it was even true.
Whatkind of life is he living now? Where is his mother and father? They were never mentioned in his diary. Did someone influence him to change? Did he ever recover from being a junkie just at the age of 15?
Quote: "What nice concepts is it having a godmother and godfather."
What Is the point of having godparents? Something that I always wondered myself. Being locked up has you thinking of all sorts of things that never make sense to you on the outside. Did he ever get the chance to get to know his godparents? Where they any help to him?
This book seems to leave you very clueless at the end. It doesn't seem to make any sense anymore. I want to know where he left off. It makes me want to read more and get more involved with the character.
